Fab Thursday!

Just wanted to say Thankyou to everyone who came along on Thursday. What a great night! I loved it when Vanessa Eaves showed her own Super 8 film of Blackpool Tower and when one of the smallest teams won the film quiz! It was so funny that every kept giving each other rounds of applause, like being at school, I loved it. I'm all ready planning the next one - party themed. Its going to be on Wednesday 17th December. Can't wait! Eek.
Here's a few photos of the quiz, the winners, people dancing and Laura and I serving jam tarts. I'll be posting more photos soon. Thanks again - I hope to see you all next time.

Thinking caps ready for Thursday?

I just spent ALL day making the film quiz which I'll be doing as part of the night this Thursday. There will be sound bites, a tag line section and other film themed questions to get you brains itching. I'm very excited about it. The best part - it's all British themed. I never knew there was so many British films, ah the wonders of internet.
Also found this website, all about British film, whilst doing my research.
Also Ealing Studios has a cute logo.

Next Stop....

I was recently looking at 'London Transport Posters'. It's a really nice book about the lovely old posters which where made by artists of the day to get people out into the countryside and other places of interest by tube. I hadn't realised it accompanies an exhibition at London Transport Museum, 'The Art of the Poster'. Exhibition runs till the end of March 2009, so you've got plenty of time to go see it. Pictured is another lovely book.

Something To Do

Josie Long sounds like a funny and rather clever lady. She's performing her show, 'All Of The Planets Wonders', at Soho Theatre, tonight, Friday and Saturday. Apparently it's cool, kooky, loveliness (Time Out). It was this picture that caught my attention. It reminds me of the these curtains.

and Action!

November is film themed and today I went into cinephilia on Sclater Street, off Brick Lane, London. I always like to check out any new small businesses and my friend had told me about this one. They've got lots of really nice books - all about film. They have a Wallflower Press section, a second hand books section, a lending libary and a student book exchange. They've only been open five weeks so stop by and take a look.

Things to do in November

If you are lucky enough to own an allotment or even a garden (I unfortunately am not), then this article titled 'Things to do in November' may be of interest. It's on the 'Observer Organic Allotment Blog' which seems quite nice. It tells you about how to attract wildlife such as birds and bats to your allotment during the winter months and how to help out our little friends by feeding them.

Lewes was Firey

We went to Lewes on Bonfire night. It was all that I had hoped for and more. So many different costume. So much fire and so very noisy. Bangers were constantly being dropped by people in the parade. All the different societies wore stipey knitted jumpers in their colours. I loved the kids being pushed in prams decorated like kiyaks, the hand painted banners and the giant Guy Fawkes to burn on the bonfire.

Who ate all the pie?

Daniel and Colin came for dinner the other night and I made steak and vegetable pie. I gave it a little winter entertainments club decoration. It's bunting hanging from branches, incase you can't tell.

All fired up

Today I'll be going to Lewes to see their annual celebrations of 5th November. I've heard a lot about it and I've been wanting to go for a long time. I've had a look on the council website and they try to deter 'outsiders' from visiting. Apparently because it gets so busy and there is so much fire about. There are seven bonfire societies in Lewes, each representing an area of Lewes. Each society wears their own colours and puts on a procession at different times throughout the night. I can't wait.

Teacake anyone?

I was delighted to see that Matt at Eye Rocket Books posted about my Halloween costume on their blog. Eye Rocket Books makes small publications which are so nicely crafted. You know the way The Winter Entertainments Club is all about Britain, well EyeRocket is all about America. I love that. They are based in Chicago and they also give talks about their projects. I'm a box of Tunnocks Teacakes in case you can't tell.

World Wide Club

The Winter Entertainments Club is actually quite modern you know. We are on myspace now. I've been working hard to make it look nice so please do take a look. Also we have a facebook account. And I'm excited that a gentleman who writes for two London websites will hopefully be posting about the night. But I'll tell more about that when I know for sure.

November Meeting

Here are some pictures of the November Meetings Invitation. It folds out. I drew it. I've been handing these out about town so I hope you all get one!

Little treats

Not everyone knows that The Winter Entertainments Club makes lots of charming little treats for all the friends and guests. Last month I made 250 limited, hand stamped invitations (pictured). Also everyone who came along on the night was given a little goody bag filled with paper treats when they arrived (also pictured). I've more goodies planned for November.
